Maui Day 2

another fairly light day today but with some nice 3-4ft surf (8ft faces) down at Kanaha, with the wind set to kick back in from tomorrow i took the opportunity to get a few of my crew out on Paddleboards with sails which is something i love to do and also helps massively with wave understanding and timing.

Wave sailing is about letting the wave control what you do with you as a passenger so using the slow big boards helps you read whats happening and allows you to have the time to make the right decision, then when you get on your wave board you can start to read what is going to happen and then smack the hell out of it :)

Sheila (sam-Hunt) and me had a couple of solid mast high waves together which was super fun, i almost took one for the team with a super late drop on a 10’6 board, just making it then riding with Sheila. The Lord had a 10 min swim to get his gear after the biggest set of the day cleaned him out which was super funny to watch, intact he got reused by a girl :) Shawna Cropas was on hand to hold his kit, so thanks shawna :)

After a very tiring day at the helm we headed back and the barbie was set up, big fat steaks, ribs, chicken, chips, salad, tequila and wine with a pizza for Sheila, then bed so we can all do again tomorrow….. love MAui!!

i am writing this at 4am as i feel asleep at 8pm :( anyway going to be windy today :)

here are some pics from today!

Maui day 1

after waking at 5am with some serious jet lag we decided on Anthonys coffee shop for a huge american style brekkie that hit the spot perfectly.

the great thing about Maui is that its never a rush as you can’t go windsurfing until after 11am so you have some great chill time in the morning, so as it was our first day we needed to organise kit for the people who didn’t bring there own so off to kahalui we went in our awesome huge van, first stop Neilpryde maui as the Lioness (Sam-Hunt) uses NP/JP in the UK he wanted to use the same here but the prices don’t match the product so off we went to another store where he picked up some nice Goya kit at a great price, you can always get a good deal here if 1, you are here with me or 2, you can barter!

all the kit sorted we picked up our pre prepared lunches from Anthony’s then to Kanaha we went where we found 14-20 knots with 2-3 ft waves (6 foot faces) at upper Kanaha, 5.9′s were rigged and off we went, Gino (fabrizio) and The Lord (Jeremey) got straight up to the waves were the others needed a little more wind so we played around on a test 2013 North Sails S-Type which we all agreed was wicked fun on a Shark 135L

Flying to Maui is a bloody long way so you always find yourself knackered on day 1 and today was no exception, and as i had to pick up Frodo (dan) at 10pm i was hanging and after a huge Fish MArket, Chicken Quasidia i was struggling.

picked him up then bed. really looking forward to another day of action tomorrow, with more sunscreen as i am a little sore!!!
